We’re Dan and Lisa Nietfeld of Nowata, Oklahoma, approximately 40
miles north of Tulsa. We began raising registered Nubian dairy goats
in the fall of 2005. We were immediately drawn to their friendly and
inquisitive natures.
After doing some initial research we decided to make a purchase of
only a few. We started with a few does and a fantastic buck, and
figured that would be the most we would ever do..... little did we
know how these captivating animals would become such a big part of
our lives!
We quickly found ourselves wanting to breed happy, healthy Nubian
dairy goats that are not only productive in the milk parlor, but
also possess the confirmation and qualities to excel in the show
ring.
We began participation in DHIR in the early spring of 2008 and have
been very pleased that 7 out of 8 does have received their milking
stars, with the last doe on her way to earning hers, but for a late
freshening in June.
We had a limited show season this year due to scheduling conflicts,
and drastic weather, but enjoyed above average success at the two
shows we did attend. namely an exciting Buck Extravaganza in
Neosho, Mo, where Thor and Bob both went Grand Champion and Best Of
Breed as well as winning 1st place Sire and Son in the first ring
and General and Sgt. Pepper also winning 1st place Sire and Son in
the second ring. We plan to show more in the upcoming 2009 season.
Kidding season usually begins in late January or early February on
our farm. We attend all births and remove kids immediately. We
provide them with heat-treated Colostrum and hand feed all kids
until weaning which takes place at around 4 months. Each kid is
raised and fed according to his or her individual needs. A
Coccidiosis prevention plan is in place throughout the feeding
schedule for all young stock, until they are weaned. We also
vaccinate and de-worm all animals on a regular basis.
We have several does that will freshen in the spring of 2009 and
most kids will be for sale then, so check back often for kidding
updates. We have a friendly, happy family of Nubian dairy goats and
their guardian dogs, Sydney, Sahara and Drake. Also, ten Great
Pyrenees puppies were born to Sydney and Sahara and they will be
available by the end of October.
Thanks for stopping by, and feel free to call or email us anytime.
